DaVinci IQ2 Review: Is the New IQ2 Vape Worth the Upgrade?
The world of dry herb vaping is evolving rapidly. For the first several years after vaping became popular among mainstream herb users, the main goal of most vaporizer manufacturers was simply to design a vape that would actually work as expected and provide a good user experience. Early dry herb vaporizers often had major problems ranging from poor battery life and restrictive airflow, to low-quality ovens that either burned the herbs or failed to use them fully without frequent stirring. You had to be really dedicated, in other words, to use a dry herb vaporizer. More recently, though, dry herb vapes have really come of age, as you will see in this DaVinci IQ2 review.
Companies like DaVinci and PAX have solved the usability issues of the early vaporizers, and you can expect any modern desktop or portable vaporizer to give you a great experience. These days, the world’s best dry herb vaporizers are all about pushing the boundaries of vaping, and adding value in entirely new ways. And adding value is exactly what the new IQ2 sets out to do! Before reading our DaVinci IQ2 Review below, check out this slick product video;
The DaVinci IQ2 is an all-purpose vaporizer that’s compatible with both dry herbs and solid concentrates. It has one of the most adjustable ovens on the market, accommodating anywhere from 0.2 to 0.5 grams of material depending on your preferences. The IQ2 also has two entirely unique features that you won’t find anywhere else. Under the hood, though, the DaVinci IQ2 is essentially the same vaporizer as the original DaVinci IQ. Whether you should upgrade if you already own the original IQ is largely a question of whether you’re actually going to use the new features. Let’s explore the difference between these two devices in this DaVinci IQ2 Review.

Still the Best Conduction Vaporizer for Flavour
DaVinci has always commanded the utmost respect among the flavour connoisseurs of the dry herb vaping world, and the new IQ2 continues that tradition. Like the original IQ, the IQ2 features an oven, vapour path and mouthpiece made entirely of zirconia. Unlike the plastic vapour paths that some vaporizers use, the zirconia vapour path of the DaVinci IQ and IQ2 is resistant to heat and completely inert. You won’t find a better vaporizer on the market for bringing the delicate flavours of your expensive herbs to the forefront. We’ve checked!
Updated Brushed Aluminium Casing
To help the IQ2 stand out from its older sibling, DaVinci has given its outer case a different finish. While the original DaVinci IQ had a sandblasted aluminium exterior, the case of the IQ2 is made from brushed aluminium. The brushed finish makes the new model look a bit shinier in bright light. The IQ2 also feels a bit smoother in the hand. Looks great!
First Vaporizer in Its Class With Adjustable Airflow
One of the most important new features of the DaVinci IQ2 is the airflow adjustment dial on the bottom. Recently, vaporizer manufacturers have designed their devices to have the freest airflow characteristics possible. Open airflow encourages a device to produce large plumes of vapour, while also protecting the mouth from excess heat. That’s great for people who prefer higher-temperature vaping, however there is a large and growing number of vapers who prefer lower-temperature vaping experiences. Low-temperature vaping helps to preserve the delicate flavours of your herbs, and can also help you avoid the “couch lock” sensation that tends to result after high-temperature vaping. The adjustable airflow dial makes the DaVinci IQ2 the first portable dry herb vaporizer built to please both crowds. If you’re a low-temperature vaper, turn the airflow dial to limit the air going through the IQ2 and experience denser, more flavourful vapour.
The DaVinci IQ2 Makes Vaping More Intelligent Than Ever
One of the biggest trends in dry herb vaping is the fact that cannabis has finally begun to receive respect around the world as a legitimate medication. More than ever, people approach cannabis with specific goals other than simply getting everything out of the herbs all at once. For the first time, the DaVinci IQ2 makes it possible for you to tell your device exactly what you want to get out of each vaping session. You can calculate your THC and CBD dosages with the IQ2 through the free DaVinci mobile app – available only on Android at the time of writing – or with the device’s control buttons.
Here’s how the intelligent dosing feature works with the DaVinci IQ2. You’ll begin by either selecting the cannabis strain you’re using or by inputting the strain’s THC and CBD percentages manually. You’ll then input the amount of material you’re using based on how full the oven is. Finally, you’ll tell the device exactly how much THC and CBD you want to consume during your vaping session. The DaVinci IQ2 uses the data you’ve provided – along with an airflow sensor that records your puffs – to estimate the cannabinoids you’ve consumed.
When you reach your goals, the DaVinci app notifies you that your session is complete. You can then rate the quality of the session and adjust your goals if necessary for future sessions. Before long, you’ll know your needs so well that you can expect to achieve exactly the same results from every vaping session – and that’s exactly what medical users want. The best part is that the DaVinci IQ2 even remembers your previous session and knows whether you’re using the same oven load for the second or third time.
Ultimate Dosage Flexibility
Along with greater precision in dosing, the ability to microdose without wasting material has been one of the most requested features among dry herb vaporizer owners for the past few years. One aspect of dry herb vapes is that they tend to work best when their ovens are fully packed. That’s not ideal for those who want to use their herbs more sparingly, and the DaVinci IQ2 fixes that problem with one of the most adjustable ovens on the market. The IQ2 offers three different ways to control the amount of material that you use in an oven load. Here’s how it works;
- With a completely full oven, the DaVinci IQ2 holds about 0.5 g of material.
- By twisting the zirconia pearl under the oven lid, you can reduce the capacity of the oven to about 0.4 g.
- DaVinci offers glass spacers in two different sizes that you can use to reduce the oven capacity further. With the small glass spacer, the device’s oven capacity is about 0.3 g.
- With the large glass spacer, the oven capacity of the IQ2 is about 0.2 g.
- The DaVinci IQ2 also includes a removable ceramic pod that you can fill with ground herbs. The pod holds about 0.2 g of material, and you can use it rather than filling the oven directly.
Although the dosage pod is a new feature that DaVinci has introduced for the IQ2, it’s worth noting that the pod will also fit into the oven of the original IQ.
Is the DaVinci IQ2 Worth the Upgrade if You Own the Original IQ?
As we mentioned already in this DaVinci IQ2 review, the IQ and IQ2 are essentially the same device under the hood. Both include the same battery and operate within the same temperature range. Both have the same zirconia vapour path and offer the same purity of flavour. And both include the same 10-year warranty. Whether you should spring for the DaVinci IQ2 if you already own the original IQ – or pay the higher price for the IQ2 if you don’t own either device – depends solely on whether you expect to use its new features.
We expect the adjustable airflow of the DaVinci IQ2 to be a hit with virtually everyone who tries it. You’re likely to find that feature in numerous vaporizers within the next year. The intelligent dosing feature of the IQ2, however, isn’t something that you’re likely to find in another vaporizer any time soon because of the immense development resources required to implement it. The ability to precisely control your herb usage is something that medical cannabis users have wanted for years, and it’s likely to remain an exclusive feature of the DaVinci IQ2 for quite some time. Excellent news!
The brand new DaVinci IQ2 is currently available on Evertree at a price of €295, and comes in a choice of four colours: Onyx (Black), Graphite (Grey), Amethyst (Purple) or Cobalt (Blue);
